Keeping our neighbourhood safe is a daunting job.  We rely of volunteers to give of their time and to put their safety on the line.  This is the first line of defense.  To strengthen our defenses, we are busy with various projects to try secure our neighbourhood:

SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS

HENW Perimeter Defense System – Our next layer of defense

With the significant increase in crime in S.A., we have to start implementing systems that will secure our area and assist with the tracking and apprehension of suspects.  Being able to monitor the various entrances into our neighbourhood has become of vital importance.  HENW has therefore started installing Surveillance Cameras, which will be monitored 24/7. We are however reliant on our residents to make this project a success.  The project will be implemented in phases when the necessary funding is available.

Phase 1

Installation of the perimeter cameras to monitor all entrance/exit points to and from our neighbourhood.  To date we’ve managed to install cameras at the cnr of Butts Rd and Underwood Rd (by Hattons Spar), cnr of Butts and Langwood road, Gordon Road and Maurice Nicols Road.  We also have access to cameras at the cnr of Underwood Rd and Gale Str and in Pastol Rd.

Phase 2

Installation of cameras on all the arterial roads to allows for monitoring of suspect movements through the neighbourhood without the risk of losing sight of a suspect during a chase and apprehension situation.

How can you help?

We are asking for a R50 donation per month per household.  The donation can be conveniently made via our debit order system or via Zapper on our Donations page.

THIS IS A  HENW INITIATIVE – ALWAYS WORKING HARD TO ENSURE OUR RESIDENTS’ SAFETY!

PERIMETER FENCES

We have identified a number of areas in our footprint where suspects use our lack of perimeter fences to escape capture or to gain access into our neighbourhood.  In an attempt to have these areas fenced off, numerous correspondence was sent to various stakeholders without any success.  This made us realise, if we don’t act ourselves to implement the necessary measures to keep our neighbourhood safe, nobody will.

We are currently in the process of investigating the installation of a fence between the M7 freeway and Dove Place (off Colinton Crescent).  We did receive some donations towards the fence from some residents in Colinton Crescent and Dove Place but these donations will over cover the installation of approximately 30m of a 225m fence.

Once this installation has been successful, our view is to install a fence in Christian Road (to limit escape routes via the railway line from the road), J S Marwich Rd (to limit escape routes to the M13) and Underwood Rd (next to Tyre Gallery to limit escape route between Crompton Street and St John’s bridge onto the M13).

All these projects however requires either financial assistance from our residence, or donations in the form of materials from some guardian angels.  If you are able to assist or if you have a fund-raising idea that can help us get to our end-goal, please contact the emergency phone on 063 360 5305 or email info@henw.co.za.

TOGETHER WE CAN CONQUER THE WORLD!
